COVID NOTICE: as of 2024, all restrictions have been lifted, so Japan welcomes you all to enjoy our hospitality. However the threat of COVID remains. not to alarm people but people continued to be diagnosed as having COVID. And there are cases diagnosed with critical conditions requiring hospitalization in intensive care units. So please be aware that everyone assumes the risk of medical attention. Whereas pre 2023 years offered governmental support, in the post 2024 era, individuals are obliged to consult their insurance companies for proper protection against COVID.
Gallery listings・画廊リスト
I am sure COVID 19 has changed your lives in the countries where you live. In 2024, we are ushering in new liberation from COVID. Congratulations to all!!
However the art community has suffered a great deal in terms of how we conduct our businesses. Sentiments of "After COVID, is that things will never be the same.". On a personal note, I have lost dear relatives due to COVID just last year. While the doors to Japan has been reopened. Please be aware that the threats of COVID is a present threat, without causing an alarm, in 2024, everyone is obliged to consult your physician regarding the risk of and medical care of COVID.
While tourists to Japan have been enjoying profitable currency exchange-rates and reasonable prices in shopping. Achieving reasonable sales of your art work might be not as profitable. So Japanese market in terms of arts might no longer be an appealing venue. Conversely, your hotel bills and living expenses might be at its lowest rate for everybody. Ironically, residency program may not be as appealing as it used to be. Please be clear as to what your achievement goals are for your endeavor. I.e. "I am interested in achieving a commission for a show of my work at the lowest expense rate." etc.
This list of museums and galleries perhaps are my personal recommendations and has my biased point of view. The list you see are for 2 and 3 dimensional visual arts. And I am truly sorry that I could not include performing arts, i.e. Music, dance and theater etc. Also literary expressions like poetry and novels etc. It would be irresponsible for me to offer my comments for areas where I am not familiar with. Please enjoy a walk-through of galleries and museums and say to yourself this is what I want.
There is also an impressive database called https://artscape.jp/eng/ I'm sure you will enjoy browsing through it.
